What is INFLORENSCENCE

The term inflorescence is used to describe all flower heads, which vary greatly according to the arrangement of individual flowers within them. The simplest form of the inflorescence is a solitary flower borne on a single stem. A capitulum often looks similar but consists of a disc-like pad supporting a number of densely packed florets. The flowers in other types of inflorescence may be stalked or stalkless and may radiate from a single point or be arranged at intervals along a stem. In the examples shown, the diagrams illustrate the structure of each type of inflorescence.
